Technology Evolves. Values Don't.
Nearly four decades of hands-on experience. One standard: fix it right.
Rick Ferreira is the owner of Midway Driveline & Diesel in Ajax, Ontario. He started his automotive apprenticeship at 16 — not just to learn how to fix things, but to understand why components failed in the first place.
That early curiosity shaped a career. Technical training with marks in the 90% range, Interprovincial certification, and continued professional education — including ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) training and other specialized technical courses — built the foundation for the diagnostic-first approach that defines the shop today.

Owner • Lead Technician
Rick's approach is straightforward: explain what's wrong, recommend only what actually needs fixing, and back it with workmanship built on real experience. It's a way of working that keeps customers coming back.

"He is fair."
Two words. No qualifications, no caveats. In an industry not known for fair pricing, this customer chose to say exactly that.
"You'll never go anywhere else."
This customer trusted Rick with their landscaping fleet, personal vehicles, and heavy snow removal equipment. Then told other people to do the same.
"Rick and partners service all of our vehicles used for landscaping, personal use, and heavy snow removal. He is fair, perfectly honest (he will never lie to you), the price is right for the quality of work, and they can do everything from the basics to custom exhaust and structural repairs. Come to Midway and Rick — you'll never go anywhere else!"

Not slogans on a wall. Principles that show up in every diagnosis, every repair, and every conversation with a customer.
If it doesn't need fixing, Rick tells you. If it does, he tells you why. No upselling, no invented problems, no padded invoices.
A fair price for quality work. That's what a customer said — not a promise we wrote. Rick prices work the way he'd want it priced for his own family.
Engines rebuilt, drivelines rebuilt, parts machined and fabricated in house. From the basics to custom exhaust and fabrication, the standard doesn't drop.
Customers are people, not transactions. Rick treats every vehicle like it belongs to a neighbour — because in Ajax, it often does.
There's the fast way and the right way. Rick chooses the right way. The work has to be correct before the vehicle leaves the shop.
Rick doesn't aim for a single transaction. He aims for the kind of trust that brings customers back — and makes them send their friends.
Don't take our word for it.

Walk into Midway Driveline & Diesel and you'll see a shop that keeps work in house. Engines get rebuilt rather than sent out. Drivelines, transmissions and differentials get rebuilt and set up on site. Custom parts get machined, welded and fabricated rather than ordered and waited on.
That capability comes from nearly four decades of hands-on experience — including performance engine building and custom hot rods that sharpened Rick's machining and fabrication skills. Whether it's a daily driver or a commercial work vehicle that puts food on someone's table, the standard is the same.
Find the cause. Fix it right. Explain what needs repair and why — and when a replacement simply isn't necessary.

I started my automotive apprenticeship at 16. I wanted to understand why parts failed — not just how to swap them out. That mindset is still the core of how I work today.
Over the years, diesel technology became a major specialty for me — Cummins, Power Stroke, Duramax, Volkswagen TDI and Mercedes-Benz diesel. The difficult problems, the emissions and electrical and computer-network drivability issues no one else could figure out, taught me to diagnose before I touch parts. Find the cause, not just the symptom.
Performance engines pulled me deeper into machining and fabrication — nitrous, turbocharging, supercharging, custom hot rods. That work is where I learned that we don't just replace things. We can build them.
I opened Midway 16 years ago to build a full-service repair and rebuilding facility with as much of that work kept in house as possible. When a customer comes in, I explain what needs repair, why it needs repair, and when a replacement isn't necessary. That's the whole idea.

Yes. Midway rebuilds engines in house — machining, reconditioning and reassembly — along with transmissions, transfer cases and differentials. Performance builds for nitrous, turbocharged and supercharged applications are part of that capability.
Customers trust Rick for clear explanations and honest recommendations — only the work that actually needs doing. A customer review from Genesis Landscaping describes him as fair and honest, stating: "He is fair, perfectly honest (he will never lie to you)."
